Rubik's Cube, generally refers to all types of geometry that can be disordered and restored by rotation, and boasts the possibility to be combined and changed in numerous ways.
With more than 40 containers waiting to be extended to various physical spaces beyond imagination, the container renovation project has been contrived for a long time. This project, finally defined as the Rubik's Cube Project, aims at letting the multidimensional geometry cross the gate of space, and build the bridge of different worlds, various arts and cultures.
In 2019, Rubik's Cube Project officially launches. Based on Nongyuan International Art Village’s large-scale art ecology and over 200 Chengdu-based artists, we implant an industrial element—the container—in the shady natural environment. Under the premise that the original ecology should be retained, we will add contemporary art, street art culture and industrial culture and let artists create each or each group of containers; meanwhile, the initiative in creating a creative art space will be given to the artists at home and abroad so that beyond the original ecology, an international art tribe comes into being.
In order to promote international culture and art exchanges and development, and inject new energy, we embrace more art talents introduced for the Rubik’s Cube Project by art institutions around the world, and artists from various countries to join us voluntarily, so that more surprises can be brought to the city and the public.
As an important part of NY20+ Artist Residency Program, the Rubik's Cube Project is still on Open Call.

Rubik's Cube Project 2019 Artists and their arworks
Tito/Mulk & Vic Oh
《不同世界的碰撞》
Tito/Mulk & Vic Oh
Victoria Oh 、Mathieu Moniot和Hugo Milla用他們的藝術語言,開啟了巴黎和成都的第一道門。
Victoria Oh, Mathieu Moniot and Hugo Milla use their own artistic language, for crossing the first gate of communication between Paris and Chengdu. Their collaborated container work in Nongyuan International Art Village is the first try of Trans’Art International’s Rubik’s Cube Project.
This double container represents a connection between two very different yet complementary artistic worlds. This is their second collaboration and first big scale format together.
The two magical women depicted are a gathering of some of the inspirations they got from their stay in Chengdu and what they’ve learned in Trans’Art International Residency.
Vic Oh gives it a mystical and colorful touch playing with totem masks from local and far-away lands, mixing her Mexican influences to Asian roots and legends.
Tito/Mulk’s style is very graphic; with percussive black and white stories that are intertwined to create a chaotic and hypnotic stage where we can easily get lost.

繼法國藝術組合Tito/Mulk以及藝術家Vic Oh(Victoria Otero)的集裝箱作品?Astral High Five?
The Second try of the Rubik's Cube Project is made by Brazilian artist—Eduardo Fonseca. His works is next to Tito/Mulk and Vic Oh’s ? Astral High Five ?, is his try of localized artistic practice.
The eyes, the window of the soul, will show stories, character and emotions, and even will tell people who you are. For Eduardo, he likes to portray eyes to express what he wants to express. No matter where he went, he created some works related to the eyes.
Each painting, though always eyes, says about the characteristics of the places where they were painted and the artist lived a time
of his life.
In Nongyuan International Art Village, Chengdu, it’s an interpretation by the unity of the personality of each person forming the collective. The strong inclusiveness and diversity contribute to the development of society. The red color of the furniture which he has seen a lot in Chengdu represents the country; the ceramic pieces in various types represent the people from all walks of life.
Mathilde Guegan, French artist, completed the third Rubik's Cube by combining previous creative forms and color exploration during her art residency in Chengdu (NY20+).
The Pentagone drawing comes from her work in football and classical Danse. In the heart of all projects was a Pentagone. This time, the form she outlined is like a beast. Her new project is exploring the meanings of colors and what it makes to her and what she felt when using them. She felt a lot of happiness using green because it makes her think of nature and the Nongyuan International Art villages are full of wonderful nature. Nature and art is really connected to her, so the heart, her beast and the place is green. It is surrounded by blue as we are surrounded by oceans.
With the assistance of Wang Yongzheng, the young sculptor, they work together to explore the most primitive nature of art—freedom. This coincides with the original commitment of the Rubik's Cube Project, that every kind of expression are allowed to bloom here, without any boundaries of forms and nationalities.
Graduated from the Sculpture Department of Southwest Minzu University, he is a member of the Sichuan Sculpture Association and now lives and works in Nongyuan International Art Village. He has been devoted to sculpture creation and insisted on discovering the harmonious beauty among space, depth, volume and form in the dimension of time.
